Straw Marquetry
Thought to be developed in Asia in the 15th Century for decorative use, and popular during the Art Deco period, traditional Straw Marquetry is made of split and flattened blades of straw, imperceptibly facete, which refracts light beautifully. We use a straw from France, which in particular has an exceptional lustre.

Gesso is a foundational artists medium, traditionally often just crushed seashells in a glue.
Our Cracked Gesso is an artists meditatin on organic material physics and surface tension. For Ivory Gesso, with a pattern inspired by tusks, our ivory gesso is made by pouring ta liquid material over a black backing. Following this, the patterns are hand carved and chiseled then infilled with a second, black gesso.
